Description

Botanical  Name:   Hibiscus Sabdariffa.   Common  Names:  Hibiscus,De Jamaica, Rosemallow.     

The hibiscus tree, with a wide range of flower colours including red, yellow, orange, pink, purple, and blue. The evergreen hibiscus tree will grow up to twelve feet tall, with a spread of six to ten feet wide. The leaves are four to eight inches in length, and glossy, dark green in colour. Hibiscus flowers consist of five petals, with a range in diameter of four to eight inches. 

Soil:  Hibiscus want loamy but not too heavy soil. Regular quality potting soil with added [leaf]compost is an ideal base. Mix  of coarse peat,  composted bark and  composted [cow] manure mixed with leca and vermiculite. 

Watering: The soil needs to dry up between waterings to protect from root to root. When hibiscus is in their blooming stage, they require large amounts of water. Hibiscus will need daily watering in warm weather. But once the weather cools, hibiscus needs far less water. In the winter, water your hibiscus only when the soil is dry to the touch.Excessive yellow leaves could be a sign of over-watering. Over-watering can cause root damage.
